About Us
The Hellenic Polar Zones Society, is a scientific society that began operating in 2012 under the initiative of Mr. Stathis Nirikos, retired Flag Officer of the Hellenic Navy, Economist & International law Expert. The Society was officially recognized with the decision No. 177/7-4-14 of the County Court of Athens.
Our members are scientists affiliated in a variety of scientific fields such as Μedicine (among them twο physician-researchers in the scientific station “Concordia” of the European Union in Antarctica), Ηydrographers, Geologists, Biologists, armed forces Officers in service or retired, Merchant Marine officers, Explorers – mountaineers, who have travelled at polar regions, artists, economists, journalists etc.
The Hellenic Polar Zones Society is created to promote the presence of Greece at Polar Zones of our Planet.
Our Mission
In line with this purpose and vision, several geo-scientists, M.Ds and officers focus their efforts in order Hellas has a kind of activities at the afforementioned virgin areas.
Our duty is the contribution for the protection of Polar Zones, in collaboration with others National or International Organisations, Institutions and Services.
Our Vision
At the same time childs education about the Polar Zones issues is a crucial factor, as well as the represantation of our Nation at International forums with relevant subjects.

More specifically, our purpose is the study of Polar Zones, the environmental observation, the data collection and systematic recording of animal life data and information.

With the no. 203762/13714/ 31-1-2020 document of the Ministry of Education, we received the approval for an educational program entitled: "A first acquaintance of students with the polar zones" in the school units of Primary and Secondary Education. Unfortunately, due to precautionary measures against the corona virus, the program was not implemented. We hope to have the opportunity to implement it very soon.
