The International Astronomical Union (IAU) announces each year the naming of low-mass bodies in the Solar System, including asteroids and comets.
The expert staff of the IAU Working Group honoured Dr. Cosmas Gazea for his valuable contribution to the study of Ancient Asteroids (Ancient Asteroid Project) and his long-standing work in science communication through the Planets In Your Hand project.
The IAU WGSBN team, recognizing Dr. Gazeas' research and educational activities internationally, named the asteroid "30278 Gazeas" (2000 HN56) in his honor. More information about asteroid (30278) Gazeas can be found on the NASA JPL website here.
